Starting on 18 November 2025, Companies House will begin requiring ID checks for company directors and those with significant control (PSCs)—with a phased, year-long introduction.
Who Will Need to Verify?
New directors – must verify their identity before officially taking up the role.
Existing directors – will need to complete verification when they file their next annual confirmation statement during the 12-month transition period.
New PSCs – will have a set timeframe from their appointment to verify.
Existing PSCs – will need to complete the process within the transition period, depending on their role.
How the ID Check Will Work
There are two main options:
Direct with Companies House – likely through an online service using a passport or driving licence plus a quick photo check.
Through us as your authorised agent – we can handle the process on your behalf to make it simple and stress-free.
Once verified, you’ll be issued a code that confirms your status and can be used in filings and statements.
What You Should Do Now
If you’re starting a company after 18 November: Have valid, in-date photo ID ready.
If you’re an existing director or PSC: Plan to verify early so your confirmation statement isn’t delayed.
Talk to us: We’ll guide you through the process and make sure you meet the deadlines.
The bottom line: From 18 November 2025, no one will be able to act as a company director or PSC without passing an ID check. We’ll make sure our clients are ready and compliant well before the deadlines.
